It's February - it's drab, it's dull, and you want to spice up your career life. But where to start? Let's take a quick look at some long standing job sites as well as some new ones - one should be right for you.
Their new ad is catchy - "your calling is calling" - as are their visuals to lure you on your own path. Tried and true, this job site has been around a long time. Any changes? You bet! First of all, employers are directed to their own site now. The opening page is neater, cleaner, not as much ads. Still easy to use, BUT not as easy nor as all encompassing. You can now only choose 20 out of an estimated 60 or so categories to do a search on. Keywords of course allow you to specify, and you can now also put in a radius of where you're willing to work/travel to work.
Is it as good? Not really. More difficult to find and compare, but for those who need to find work in a specific niche, it's probably better. The plus side though is that their Resource Centre is the pride of the industry. Check out their Salary Wizard - absolutely awesome! Make sure you check it out before you go in to negotiate your next pay raise!
A relatively new addition, this one demands you register before you'll see the actual ad. You'll see the quick listing, but not the actual posting. If an ad is also on a local newspaper, you will be able to click and see that ad, but it's a bit obscure and you are still reminded to become a member. No charge to register, but remember - read the privacy policy. In this site, your information will be collected and used for marketing and other purposes. If someone uses this service, let us know what you think. This one is not high on my list at all.
The above link is for the basic home page - pick your country, then state/province and then your closest city. From there you'll see a listing which includes jobs. Yes, you'll get the usual "home-based" scams as well as some good leads; you'll also get some good jobs! Personal family members have actually had interviews and jobs through Craiglist - so consider this a personal recommendation for using this site! Mind you, if you live in the boonies, you won't get too many leads, but it's still worth checking out every week or so.
This is a free site where the best of the Telecommuting jobs (usually from Craiglist) are presented in a daily format. More importantly, the site writers warn you of scams, and how to really work from home. Highly recommended.
Feel free to let us know of any particular sites you would recommend - either start a discussion or send me an email! Hope to hear from you soon!
